Almost 40 years ago, two research articles were published and relied on by regulators that showed that a sunscreen tested at 2 SPF outdoors and at 3 SPF indoors by preheating the back. The scientist claimed that indoor testing SPF is “similar” to a natural sunlight SPF and regulators deemed the test methods were “reasonably comparable”. Indoor test methods for sunscreens were accepted as the most accurate and reliable.
The problem is that the outdoor test results for sunscreens are not similar or comparable to SPF and broad spectrum claims from today’s indoor test methods.
We’ve learned that there is a large difference between what sunscreen product SPF and broad spectrum claims are and the level of broad spectrum protection they provide in natural sunlight. Although some critics might claim that the products failed, we believe that the product testing methods do not accurately measure how these products perform in natural sunlight. You use sun protection in natural sunlight and you deserve accurate information and effective solutions to protect your skin from overexposure to the sun’s dangerous rays.
We are driven to provide answers for you on how sun protection products perform in natural sunlight.
